The Xiaomi 13 Ultra features a 1-inch sensor with dual aperture

If you think Xiaomi is already done with introducing its flagship phones with Leica lenses this year, the company is once again taking things up a notch by introducing the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, the phone succeeds last year’s Xiaomi 12s Ultra and was the first phone to come with a 1-inch Sony IMX989 primary camera, and Xiaomi has upgraded that camera to have dual aperture on the Xiaomi 13 Ultra.

Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra comes with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage, it sports a 6.73-inch 1440p LTPO display that refreshes dynamically up to 120Hz and offering an insane 2,600 nits of peak brightness. it also has a 5,000mAh battery that supports 90W fast wired charging and 50W fast wireless charging, and like the other Xiaomi 13 siblings, the Ultra is IP68 water and dust resistant.

Compared to the Xiaomi 13 Pro, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra sports a quad-camera setup, that includes its main 50.3MP Sony IMX989 main camera that supports two apertures of f/1.9 and f/4.0 and is optically stabilized, two optically stabilized 50MP telephoto cameras that does 3.2x and 5x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide camera that supports PDAF. As for the front camera, it uses the same 32MP camera as the Xiaomi 13 Pro’s, which unfortunately also only supports 1080p video recording.

Users will also be glad to know that the Xiaomi 13 Ultra’s USB-C port is a USB-C 3.2 port, which means you can expect faster file transfers and mirror the phone’s to an external monitor or TV.

By having two apertures, it gives mobile photographers better control over their images, as having a large aperture isn’t always ideal for general photography especially outdoors, given that the phone has such a large sensor, the smaller aperture would allow better exposure control under bright lighting condition.

As usual, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra is only made available in China for preorders at this time of writing, but we do expect it to make international debut to complete the Xiaomi 13 series, the phone starts at 5999 CNY (RM3,861) for the 12GB+256GB storage variant and goes all the way up to 7299 CNY (RM4,698) for the 16GB+1TB storage variant, expect it to be priced even higher when it reaches the Malaysian shores.
