Samsung’s latest conference confirmed that Samsung Display will be expanding their portfolio and develop rollable and slideable displays that will likely be revealed this year.
Others are ready to roll out their rollable phones this year
We’ve already heard of some rollable phones like the OPPO X 2021 and the LG Rollable, but Samsung may not necessary bring its rollable/slideable display to its smartphones yet. Samsung could focus on its TVs first to compete with LG’s first rollable TV, the LG Rollable OLED TV R.
Samsung will be selling its foldable panels to others
Reports also suggest that Samsung will be sharing its foldable displays with other competitors in the market. It will be selling other brands its foldable panels which includes its UTG technology, but Samsung will also work on its rollable/slideable displays so it can stay ahead. According to DSCC, foldable panels this year are also going to be thinner and Samsung’s UTG technology will be improved.
With other rollable phones launching this year, we can’t help but to think that Samsung will be surprising us with its own rollable phone in 2021 too.
