The Galaxy Note 8 is definitely a huge upgrade from the Galaxy Note 5 and Note 7. It is a significant improvement over its predecessor(s) either way, but has drawn a lot of inspiration from Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S series. While there are no doubt many fans who are looking forward to get their hands on the Note 8, many have criticized the flagship phablet, claiming it to lack extraordinary features. Fear not, Samsung’s Mobile Division Chief DJ Koh has addressed those concerns in an interview.

One of the first notable concerns that DJ Koh attended to was regarding the Galaxy Note 8’s battery. Not the possibility of it catching fire but the fact that it has a smaller capacity than its predecessor. For comparison, the Galaxy Note 7 packed a 3,500mAh battery, which is nearly 17% larger than the Note 8’s 3,000mAh battery. Koh stated that the new processor underneath the hood of the Note 8 improves the power efficiency of the battery by 30%, which a significant upgrade. Besides, it didn’t go so well for Samsung when it opted for a bigger battery in its Note line last year.

Another raised question is the lack of “wow” features on the Galaxy Note 8 in which Koh replied by stating that while customer demand are diverse, Samsung isn’t focusing on innovation alone, but rather innovation sought after by its customers. He also mentioned that the Galaxy Note 8 was upgraded based on surveys carried out among its customers.

While these statements might not have answered all of our concerns, they have mostly justified the Galaxy Note 8’s existence. What do you think?
