With the Nintendo Switch coming to stores in four months’ time, the Wii U’s life is at its end. Nintendo seems to believe so as the company is rumoured to be stopping production of the console this Friday.

According to Eurogamer’s sources, Nintendo’s Japanese production line for the Wii U will shut down after the final deadline for orders passed yesterday. The Wii U has been one of Nintendo’s weaker consoles, as sales of the device have been unimpressive even when it was first launched. As of September 30th, Nintendo has shipped 13.36 million Wii U consoles, a pitiful sum when compared to the Wii’s 101 million units.

It is highly unlikely that you’ll need to rush out and buy a Wii U console if you want one though, as even though production of te console may be halted, shops will probably still have inventories for Nintendo’s console. If nothing else, the Wii U has been a great testbench for the upcoming Switch, as the upcoming portable console hybrid has obviously taken some cues from the Wii U.
