After the downfall of the Wii U, Nintendo came back hard with the Nintendo Switch which is targeted to outsell the Wii U within this year, but that does not mean they are taking a break. Recently the Japanese gaming giant has just announced yet another handheld console which is very familiar to all of us, the New Nintendo 2DS XL. The design has also been drastically changed from the previous slab looking design the old 2DS had.

The new 2DS XL is similar to the new 3DS XL just without the 3D feature that no one uses anyway. The device will have a C-stick, Amiibo support, Z-buttons and will be compatible with all New 3DS games. It’s a relieve to know that the screens on the device look to be the same size as the ones on the 3DS XL, as the previous 2DS was too small to play games with a lot of things going on at once like Monster Hunter Generations and Super Smash Bros.

Based on the trailer, the new 2DS will come in a sleek black and blue design but a little digging on the Nintendo Japanese site shows that there will be a white and gold edition, which we hope will not be locked to the Japan region only. The device is set to release on July 28 with a retail price of $150 (Rm652.13), a good pick up for those of you that can make do without the flawed 3D function.
