New iPhones reportedly will not come with a Type-C port

Reports by Mac Otakara, which has connections to Apple’s Asian supply chains and accessory manufacturers, claims that this year’s iPhones will not sport the more common Type-C port, but rather will stick to a Lighting port and USB-A charger combo.

This comes as a bit of a surprise since last year’s iPad Pro came with an 18W USB-C charger and port. Many expected Type-C ports to be the standard for new Apple devices, which would make life easier for the masses.

According to the report, the move is an effort to cut cost, but this will come at the cost of charging speeds. Users who want to boost charging speeds will have to buy accessories like the 12W iPad charger or a USB-C to Lightning cable that supports USB-C Power Delivery.

These are early days, so Apple could still surprise us; but considering Mac Otakara knack for successfully predicting tech trends (they predicted the iPad Pro’s switch to Type-C), it seems likely that 2019 iPhones could indeed stick to Lighting ports.
