Like it or not, many tech companies these days are looking at artificial intelligence as more than a novelty. To that end, a number of tech companies who have been dabbling in A.I. are teaming up to help the public understand more about this technology.

Called the Partnership on Artificial Intelligence to Benefit People and Society, this partnership is made out of Google, Facebook, Amazon, IBM and Microsoft. According to the Partnership’s statement, these five companies will “conduct research, recommend best practices, and publish research under an open license in areas such as ethics, fairness and inclusivity; transparency, privacy and interoperability; collaboration between people and A.I. systems; and the trustworthiness, reliability and robustness of the technology.”

All five companies currently have their own A.I. projects of course, with IBM and Google being the most notable thanks to Watson and DeepMind respectively. Amazon and Microsoft has smaller AI projects in the form of Alexa and Cortana, while Facebook relies on A.I. for features such as face recognition and the News Feed. The Partnership’s interim co-chairmans have spoken to The Guardian, saying that they hare currently trying to rope in Apple into the partnership. Another potential partner is Elon Musk thanks to the man’s work on OpenAI, a non-profit A.I. research project that promises to make its results available to all.
