Camera apps aren’t anything new, but a camera app that comes with its own AI? That sounds interesting enough to warrant your attention. Such is the case with Pix, Microsoft’s own camera app that comes with an AI.

Available on the iPhone today (sorry Android users), Pix is an intelligent camera app that uses artificial intelligence to improve photos by adjusting camera settings, automatically enhancing pictures, and then choosing the best out of a burst of photos. How Pix work is simple. Once you launch Pix, the app starts capturing whatever your camera is pointed at. Once the shutter button is pressed, Pix would quickly snap 10 frames. From there, various algorithms work to evaluate those 10 frames for sharpness, exposure, and even the mood of the person in the shot. This evaluation occurs near-instantaneously, and would provide you with three of the “best images.” The remaining seven frames is used to enhance the “best images” before being deleted.

Besides automatically enhancing photos, Pix will also allow you to create live images by stitching together all the burst grames into a looping video. Basically, this feature is Microsoft’s own take on Apple’s Live Photo feature. Pix is now available on the Apple App Store for free.
