The Malaysian Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) is working with local telcos to offer two new affordable internet access plans for university students and low-income families. The initiative is meant to allow more Malaysians to receive accessible means of connecting to the internet.

The plan starts at RM30 for three months with the Pakej Remaja Keluarga – this offers a 20GB data allocation. It needs to be noted that this allocation can only be used for the purpose of media consumption (downloading and streaming videos); users also get 1GB extra on a daily basis for “productivity activities” such as messaging, and internet browsing.

Another plan comes in the form of the Pakej Peranti Keluarga Malaysia that allows families to buy up to two smartphones through 12- or 24-month instalments, priced from RM40/month. These devices are 4G and VoLTE capable. The plan also gives users the same 1GB of productivity data mentioned earlier.

The registration for these plans opens this October 15 and ends 15 April next year. Visit KKMM’s Facebook page here for more updates regarding this initiative.
