Insta360 has launched the X6, its latest flagship 360 camera and what the company describes as the biggest upgrade in the history of its X Series. Arriving as Insta360 celebrates 10 years in the 360 camera category, the X6 brings significantly larger sensors, improved 8K recording, stronger low-light performance and a new AI-powered editing system that can automatically create videos while the camera is charging.
Bigger Sensors Bring a Major Image Quality Upgrade
One of the biggest improvements is the X6’s new dual Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensors, which Insta360 says provide the equivalent imaging area of full 1-inch 360 sensors. Compared to the X5, the sensors offer 33% more surface area and approximately four times the light intake per frame.
Processing also receives a major upgrade with a triple AI chip system consisting of an 8-core 3.3GHz 4nm processor and two dedicated imaging chips. Insta360 claims this delivers 500% more computing power than the X5 while consuming 35% less power.
The additional processing power enables native 8K 360 recording at up to 50fps, while a new low-light mode uses two ambient light sensors to reduce flickering and improve night footage. AdaptiveTone 2.0 independently meters each lens and captures two exposures per frame to improve dynamic range in difficult lighting conditions.
The X6 is also claimed to be the first 360 camera with native in-camera Dolby Vision recording. It supports 10-bit colour with more than 1.07 billion colours, while I-Log is available for creators who want greater flexibility when colour grading footage in post-production.
Three Cameras in One
Insta360 is positioning the X6 as more than just a conventional 360 camera. Its new 3-in-1 approach allows the camera to function as a full 360 camera, subject-tracking gimbal camera or traditional single-lens action camera.
In 360 mode, users can record everything around them at up to 8K50fps and decide on their framing afterwards. InstaFrame 2.0 provides another option by automatically tracking people, pets and objects before producing conventional flat 4K footage directly from the camera, reducing the need to reframe footage manually.
When paired with the new Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit, its joystick can control subject tracking to create a gimbal-like shooting experience. The optional POV Head Tracker can even follow the direction the user is looking and automatically adjust framing accordingly.
Switching to single-lens mode effectively turns the X6 into a conventional action camera, supporting up to 5K60fps recording, a 170-degree field of view at 5K30fps and 4K120fps slow-motion recording.
Bigger Battery, OLED Display and Replaceable Lenses
The hardware has received several practical improvements as well. The Insta360 X6 features a 2.32-inch OLED display capable of reaching 1,200 nits of peak brightness, while Full Screen Press is designed to keep the interface usable when wearing gloves.
A new 2,600mAh Xtreme Battery provides up to 140 minutes of 8K30fps 360 recording, which Insta360 claims is 51% longer than the X5. Fast charging can replenish the battery from empty to 80% in around 24 minutes, while operation is supported in temperatures as low as -20°C.
Heat is managed by Insta360’s Star-Ridge cooling system, which the company claims offers 10% better cooling efficiency than competing 360 cameras while incorporating an insulated grip for more comfortable extended recording.
Replaceable Lens 2.0 is meanwhile claimed to offer five times greater scratch resistance while costing 60% less to replace than the previous generation. The camera itself carries an IP68 rating and is waterproof to 20 metres without a case, increasing to 60 metres when used with the Invisible Dive Case Pro.
There’s also 64GB of internal storage, of which 47GB is available to users, allowing the X6 to start recording even without a microSD card installed.
PanoMind Can Edit Your Videos While X6 Charges
Another major focus of the X6 is reducing the amount of editing traditionally associated with 360 footage.
Insta360 has developed PanoMind, its first AI model specifically trained to understand complete spherical scenes rather than conventional flat video frames. According to the company, the model was trained using more than 10,000 hours of footage across over 30 scenarios including travel, motorcycling, cycling, diving, winter sports and everyday life.
Its AI Director feature can analyse footage stored on the camera while the X6 is charging and automatically produce highlight edits that are delivered to the Insta360 app. Processing takes place directly on the camera rather than in the cloud, and users can disable the feature if they prefer.
For those who want more control, Auto Edit 2.0 can take one or multiple clips and automatically handle framing, camera movement, cuts, music and transitions.
Insta360+ Cloud adds another editing option through Moments Pro, which is built with Google Gemini. Users can specify a subject, mood, style and timeframe before allowing the service to generate a video based on footage uploaded to the cloud.
More Than 100 Accessories Supported
The X6 works with more than 100 accessories and retains compatibility with magnetic mounts used by the X5, X4 Air and Ace series.
New accessories include an X6 Power Selfie Stick capable of providing an additional 180 minutes of runtime, Foldable Selfie Stick Remote Kit, Bullet Time Selfie Stick 2.0 and Fast Charge Case with dual battery and dual SD card slots.
Motorcyclists get dedicated features including a holographic speed dashboard overlay, auto-looping dashcam recording and automatic licence plate blurring. The camera also supports cycling data overlays from devices including Garmin and Apple Watch.
Audio is handled by a four-microphone 360-degree windproof array, complemented by a separate Hidden Engine Mic designed to isolate motorcycle engine sounds while reducing wind noise. Two Insta360 Mic Air or Mic Pro transmitters can also be connected simultaneously through Direct Connect.
FlowState stabilisation and 360 Horizon Lock handle stabilisation, while connectivity includes NFC touch-to-connect, Wi-Fi 6.0 with wireless transfers of up to 100MB/s and USB 3.0 transfers reaching up to 450MB/s.
Insta360 X6 Price and Availability
The Insta360 X6 is available in Malaysia starting August 12, 2026, with the Standard Bundle priced from RM2,899. The Essentials Bundle is priced at RM3,199, alongside several other accessory bundles.
Customers who purchase and activate an X6 before September 30, 2026, will receive one year of Insta360+ Premium cloud storage with 500GB capacity and three months of Moments Pro, which includes two generated clips per month, at no additional cost.
Insta360 is also offering a 90-day free replacement policy for early buyers, while Insta360 FlexiCare remains available as an optional protection plan covering accidental damage with up to four replacements over two years.
With larger sensors, 8K50fps capture, improved low-light performance, a longer-lasting battery and AI that can automatically turn 360 footage into finished videos, the X6 represents a substantial upgrade over the X5 while pushing Insta360’s flagship camera closer towards becoming an all-in-one solution for action, travel and everyday content creation.
