IFA 2026 officially opens in Berlin on September 4, and the announcements surrounding Europe’s biggest consumer technology show are already pointing toward one dominant theme: AI is moving out of individual apps and into entire device ecosystems.
For Malaysian tech buyers, the interesting part of IFA is not necessarily every product announced in Berlin. It is identifying the technologies likely to appear in laptops, smart-home products and consumer electronics heading to our market over the next several months.
AI PCs are becoming personal AI computers
AMD will deliver IFA’s opening keynote on September 4 under the theme “The Era of Personal AI”. That wording reflects where the PC industry is heading. Manufacturers are increasingly moving beyond simple NPU specifications and asking how laptops can run persistent assistants, private models and agent-like workflows locally.
Expect AI PC announcements to focus more heavily on what the computer actually does with its NPU rather than simply advertising a TOPS number.
Local AI is getting bigger than a single laptop
GEEKOM has previewed an unusual distributed local-AI setup for IFA using four A9 Mega Mini PCs connected over USB4. The system is designed to run large AI models locally without relying on a traditional server rack.
It is an extreme example, but the idea is important: local AI computing may eventually scale across multiple devices rather than being limited to the processor inside one PC.
The smart home wants to understand context
LG is using IFA to show its next-generation AI Home platform and a new ThinQ Claw interface. The broader goal is for connected appliances to understand context and coordinate actions rather than requiring users to manually control every device.
That could be a much more meaningful evolution for smart homes than simply adding AI branding to another appliance. The useful smart home is one that reduces the amount of interaction required from its owner.
Expect a wave of announcements before the show floor opens
Acer has scheduled its global IFA press conference for September 2, where it says it will unveil AI PCs, gaming devices and display technology. Other manufacturers are similarly preparing announcements ahead of the official September 4 opening.
That means the next few days should be unusually busy for consumer technology news. We will be watching especially closely for practical AI features, new laptop platforms, genuinely useful smart-home technology and the occasional weird gadget that makes IFA fun.
