HTC U11’s display snaps in bend test

Most modern smartphones made by major manufacturers often go through a series of durability tests and some decent beating by popular YouTuber JerryRigEverything. The series of tests include a scratch test, screen burn test and a bend test. Phones that recently failed JerryRigEverything’s tests include the Honor 6X and the Blackberry KeyOne.

The HTC U11 turned out to be the latest device to fail JerryRigEverything’s durability tests. HTC’s latest flagship underwent the scratch test and screen burn test with results turning out as expected. The phone’s display toughness happens to be on par with the likes of the Galaxy S8 and the iPhone 7. However, when it came to the bend test, the HTC U11 seemed to fail catastrophically with the display snapping as a result of the bending.

JerryRigEverything explains that HTC’s other flagship – the U Ultra sported a more flat display whereas the U11 features a more protruding 3D glass instead. In terms of durability, the 3D glass screen’s flex threshold happens to be less than that of the U Ultra’s flat screen. In this case, the rigidity of the U11’s screen results in it snapping almost instantaneously from bending.

Consequently, the HTC U11 was added into JerryRigEverything’s shelf of shame, which includes the rest of the smartphones that failed his durability tests. We’re not implying that the phone is bad, just don’t attempt to bend it?
