The HTC 10 finally proved to be a pretty promising flagship device, bouncing back from the One M9 which received a lot of criticism in the tech industry. The Taiwanese OEM has surprised us in the tech world yet again, launching another One handset – the HTC One S9.

In a glance, HTC One S9 can be mistaken for the M9. The phone’s rear is identical to that of the M9, with a brushed aluminium texture. On the front we are looking at a 5.5-inch Super LCD 1080 display, protected by a generation of Gorilla Glass which wasn’t revealed by HTC. Underneath the hood lies an octa-core MediaTek Helio X10 SoC clocked at 2GHz, with 2GB of RAM instead of the usual 3GB RAM seen in other mid-range devices. It comes with 16GB of internal memory, expandable via micro SD which HTC claims to support up to a still unreal 2TB.

The One S9 comes with a pretty impressive camera package. The rear facing camera is 13MP with f/2.0 aperture and OIS and the selfie camera features HTC’s UltraPixel with 4MP and 2μm pixels, also with f/2.0 aperture. The handset is powered by a 2,840mAh battery, a reasonable capacity given the amount of horsepower required for the device. However, the One S9 doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor, which can be a letdown for a 2016 smartphone. On a brighter note, you’ll be getting HTC’s front facing BoomSound stereo speakers. Another plus is the phone will run Android Marshmallow out of the box.

It may sound like a pretty attractive package for a mid-range smartphone, but the HTC One S9 carries a hefty price tag, which can cause it to lose out to other affordable devices with better spec sheets. Coming at €499 (RM2,206.96) in Germany, it may not seem like an affordable mid-ranger anymore. What do you think?
