The long awaited and highly anticipated Google Pixel series of handsets were officially debuted earlier this week. Both the Pixel and Pixel XL, with only their displays and batteries being the only differences, has been getting mixed reviews from fans and critics alike since it was launched a couple of days ago. A report has stated that the Pixel phone shipments will be hitting as much as 4 million by the end of the year.

Based on a report by DigiTimes, Google will be shipping out around 3 to 4 million units of the Pixel handsets in total this year. While the figure pales in comparison to Samsung’s Galaxy S7 sales – reported to hit more than 25 million units during the first half of 2016, and the iPhone 7 series by Apple, which was said to have pushed out approximately a whopping 13 million units during the opening weekend of sales, the sales of the Pixel phones are expected to lift the spirits up of Taiwanese manufacturer HTC, who has shown a lacksture sales performance so far in 2016.

As impressive as HTC’s 2016 handsets may be, with the likes of the flagship HTC 10, the company hasn’t been doing well, with profits plunging every quarter. The Google Pixel shipments will account for 40 to 50 percent of HTC’s handset shipments, which will definitely shed new light on the struggling smartphone maker. What do you think?
