With the imminent arrival of 5G technology in the country, consumers will be hoping that there will ample choices of affordable 5G-ready smartphones to get. So far, our options are slim and come in eye-watering prices – think the Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G, OPPO Reno 5G and the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra.

Well, not all 5G smartphones need to burn a hole through your pocket – Samsung’s Galaxy A71 is reportedly coming with 5G support and will be sold outside the mainstays of the US and China. It’s unsure if Malaysia will be one of the countries being looked at by the Korean giants, but as 5G connectivity will be commercially be available this July, it’s not unlikely for Samsung to bring the 5G-ready Galaxy A71 over too.

The current LTE variant is a fantastic device priced affordably – with a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 730 chipset and a 64MP quad-camera setup, it’s priced at RM1,799. With a 5G variant reportedly available, we could see it ship with an Exynos 980 chipset and shouldn’t cross the RM3,000 threshold.

This may be wishful thinking for now, but it isn’t beyond the realm of reality since the country is very near to being 5G-ready too. Stick with us as we bring you the latest updates on 5G in Malaysia and the devices that support it.
