The EV market in Malaysia has gotten a new contender today, as BYD, otherwise known as Build Your Dreams, has introduced the Atto 3 All Electric SUV in Malaysia through Sime Darby Motors, the Atto 3 is made available in Standard and Extended Range models, which will retail at RM149,800 and RM167,800 respectively OTR without insurance.

Interestingly, both the Standard and Extended range of the Atto 3 is powered by the very same front mounted 150kW electric motor that produces 204PS and 310Nm, which does the century sprint in 7.3 seconds. The Standard Range features a 49.92kWh battery that does up to 410KM based on the NEDC standards, while the Extended Range features a 60.48kWh battery that goes up to 480km based on the NEDC standards.

In terms of equipment, the Atto 3 Standard Range features a panoramic sunroof, heated electric wing mirrors, 5-inch digital instrument panel, faux leather seats, six-way powered driver’s seat, 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitor, electronic parking brake with auto hold, LED headlamps and rear lights and adaptive front lights.

Drivers are treated to a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen which can be used in either landscape or portrait, there’s also the convenience of an NFC key card which drivers can just wave at the wing mirrors to unlock the car, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay will be made available via a software update in Q2 2023.

The Extended Range variant will include all the benefits of the standard range while adding on electronic tailgate, multi-colour gradient rhythmic ambient lighting on the door handles and eight speakers with Dirac HD sound, PM 2.5 air filter and a wireless phone charger.

When it comes to charging, the Atto 3 will support up to 70kW DC fast charging for the Standard Range variant and up to 80kW DC fast charging for the Extended Range variant, both fast charges over the same CCS2 charging connector, both variants will support 7kW AC charging with the Type 2 connector.

BYD quotes that the Atto 3 will require 9.5 hours for A charging and 1.2 hours through DC charging, which is rather standard among competing EVs. To celebrate the grand launch, BYD has a ‘Grand Launch Special’ where customers can get a free portable home charger, a free V2L extension cable and RM1,000 worth of public charging credit.

The Atto 3 will come with a 6-year or 150,000km warranty, whichever comes first, its battery however will have a separate warranty period of 8 years or 160,000km, which should give drivers a peace of mind when owning the car for long term.
