Android Pay, Google’s digital wallet service has been implemented for 18 months now. The platform, which dismisses the need to use cash and credit cards at certain stores have been increasingly popular nowadays. First launched in the US before heading to most first world nations, Android Pay is now officially in a total of 10 countries worldwide, having added Belgium to its list today.
Although 10 countries might sound like a milestone, it is no doubt that Google has been rather slow in implementing its paying service to different countries, averaging 1 country in nearly 2 months. Nevertheless, the NFC payment service has officially launched in Belgium and users can now user Android Pay at over 85,000 locations across the country, including household names such as Carrefour, H&M and McDonald’s.
Currently, only selected cards from 3 banks support Android Pay – BNP Paribas Fortis, Fintro, and Hello Bank. European based food delivery service Deliveroo will also be getting Android Pay in the near future. As usual, users will need to have a compatible card and the Android Pay app in order to use the “Tap to Pay” service. Will Android Pay ever arrive to Malaysia? Or will we be stuck with Samsung Pay?
