Most major Android app developers have been working hard behind the scenes to make standalone apps for Android Wear, as it is one of the most welcomed features to Android Wear 2.0. To recap, with standalone apps, users need not have their smartphone beside them to access the apps. Instead, users can view the app from the comfort of their own wrist, without having to refer to their smartphone screens. Just recently, Uber has launched its Android Wear 2.0 app, nearly two years after flaunting it at I/O 2015.
AccuWeather, one of the most popular weather forecast sources, is also known for its apps on mobile platforms. The company, AccuWeather Inc. has finally released its on app for Android Wear 2.0, allowing easier access to weather updates for Android Wear users. AccuWeather previously had a companion app for Android Wear, but the new app for Android Wear 2.0 works by itself without the need of a smartphone.
What’s new is AccuWeather’s MinuteCast, which shows minute-by-minute precipitation forecast based on a user’s exact location on the map. MinuteCast goes as detailed as providing info about the precipitation type, intensity and its start and end times. MinuteCast currently only works in the United States, Canada, Japan, Ireland, France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Netherlands, Luxembourg, the United Kingdom, and certain regions of the Czech Republic. On top of that, there are the usual features that come packed with weather forecast apps, such as severe weather alerts, hourly and daily forecasts.
Do bear in mind that you have to be running Android Wear 2.0 on your smartwatch to enjoy AccuWeather’s standalone app, that is if you own a LG Watch Sport or LG Watch Style. Either that or you will have to wait for Android 2.0 to arrive to your Android wearable.
