It wasn’t until recently that the government has started to allow interstate travel, specifically for those who have gone back to their hometown and want to return to their homes or workplaces. Now, Malaysians will be able to apply for interstate travels based via the Gerak Malaysia app.
Once they’ve registered and filled in the necessary information, they can generate their QR codes based on their reasons for travelling out of their homes. Bukit Aman Criminal Investigations Department director Datuk Huzir Mohamed also said that Malaysians will need to update the application on the day they travel to generate a QR code for the police to scan.
By submitting your applications via the app, the police will also be able to get the exact numbers of travellers and plan ahead for smooth travel. You can request to travel via the app now, but the app will show you a message to check again on April 29 to get more details on the application process.
For now, the travel schedule should be from May 1 to May 3. The first day is allocated for those travelling from Perak, Johor and Kelantan, the next day is for those from Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Melaka and Pahang and the last day is for those from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu.
