Intel DG1

It has happened, Intel has showed off its first discrete GPU after a decade. The Intel DG1 (DG for Discrete Graphics). It’s been teased before, but Team Blue has showed off the DG1 at CES 2020, much to the amusement of many. The card itself looks to be a single-fan GPU with a muted shroud design; but, it has its own light – only emits blue though.

It needs to be said however, the one showed off isn’t a high-end card – it was shown off running Destiny 2 at 1080p capped at 60FPS; but, Intel has noted the Xe architecture-based cards will be available in three variants – Xe LP, Xe HP and Xe HPC, catering to low-, mid- and high-end systems. Some variants may overlap in what in can be used for.

The DG1 isn’t for sale however, and we can see why – as mentioned, it’s a low-end GPU and with the Nvidia and AMD dominating the market, Intel isn’t looking to rush into things. According to PC Games N, Intel is planning to release a PC GPU this year, but it’s likely to be the DG2 instead.

In any case, we’re glad to see Intel re-joining the dedicated GPU market to provide Team Green and Red some healthy competition – more options for us eh!
