Sony recently released its next generation a6400 mirrorless camera, and this camera comes with amazing autofocus features while remaining as a travel-friendly lightweight camera.
The Sony a6400 is a 24.2MP APS-C camera that can reach up to ISO 102,400 at its expanded range. It now has improved noise suppression in which noise reduction is more effective when used at the medium-to-high sensitivity range, producing cleaner and battery image quality. It comes with 425 phase and contrast detection AF points, and when combined with Sony’s latest BIONZ X processor, the a6400 is capable of amazing autofocus features.
The a6400 is capable of distributing focus points around 84% of the image area for the better subject capture, and thanks to the Fast Hybrid AF system, it has 0.02 second AF speed. Thanks to the 4D FOCUS technology, the a6400 can focus clearly on the subject even when the subject is not at the centre of the frame, and even when the subject is moving around, the sensor can predict and track the subject’s next move, resulting in persistent tracking so that the subject will not be out of focus.
The a6400 also supports fast continuous shooting up to 11fps with after-view and up to 8fps with live-view, in which there will be minimal display lagging. On its silent continuous shooting mode, the camera can shoot up to 8fps even with AF/AE tracking or with Real-time Tracking and Real-time Eye AF.
Real-time Eye AF and Real-time Tracking are both AI-based subject recognition technology. The Real-time Eye AF is a feature that recognises human faces and focuses on a single eye of an individual which will keep the focus on the subject even when he/she is moving or his/her face is partly covered. This is particularly useful for those who are shooting portrait photography. Apart from that, the Real-time tracking combines face detection, subject tracking, eye detection to track its subject and users can also tap onto their touchscreen to immediately put focus on their subject.
The a6400 is also great for movie recording thanks to its Fast Hybrid Autofocus and thanks to the HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) picture profile so when users connect the camera to Sony Tvs that are HDR-compatible, they can view 4K HDR10 imagery. In addition, users can also create time-lapse movies easily thanks to the new interval shooting which is basically continuous shooting with a pause of 1 to 60 seconds between still shots. Users will no longer need to manually shoot still shots for time-lapse creations, and thanks to the AE tracking sensitivity that can be adjusted during interval shooting, users can adjust the exposure over the shooting interval to prevent the images from being under/overexposed as time passes.
Another new feature on the a6400 is it’s 180-degree LCD flip-screen. The LCD screen can be flipped upwards so that those who do vlogging can do it conveniently, and they can also use the touch functionality on the LCD screen such as Touch Pad, Touch Focus, Touch Shutter and Touch Tracking.
The a6400 comes in three options. Those who are interested can either purchase its body only, its body with a 16-50mm Power Zoom Lens, or its body with a 18-135mm Zoom Lens. However, the a6400 will only be available in Malaysia around the end of March, so the pricing is still unknown.
