LG G6 sales in Q2 lower than expected

When LG unveiled the G6 flagship, most of us were confident that the company will bounce back from the flop of the G5 from last year. While LG did bounce back in terms of the innovation and development behind its latest flagship smartphone, the sales aspect still pretty much remains unchanged from the same period in 2016.

LG has announced its financial results for Q2 2017, and the South Korean manufacturing giant made some revenue gains from the previous quarter, but only thanks to the significant improvement in sales from the LG Home Appliance & Air Solution Company, LG’s home appliances sector. While LG reaped significant revenue from other sectors, it turns out that its mobile sector saw “a challenging second quarter”.

LG’s mobile sector reported an operating loss of a KRW 132.4 billion (RM 507.7 million), which is almost unchanged compared to the same period in 2016, according to the report. This was due to premium smartphone sales being weaker than expected and the increase in component costs. This could mean that the LG G6 isn’t doing so well as we expect it to be.

However, LG is expected to make up some ground with the recent unveiling of the Q6 and the upcoming V30 smartphones. Regardless, the company still faces challenges from fellow South Korean giant Samsung, who has been making strides with its Galaxy S8 flagship series.
