Remember Project CSX? ZTE’s attempt to crowdsource ideas for its next product? Well, ZTE has just recently picked the grand prize winner of Project CSX, and it is an “eye-tracking, self-adhesisve phone”.

For the eye tracking part of the phone, the system will function by utilising a pair of front-facing cameras that are capable of following the user’s eye-movement. This eye-tracking functionality can then be used to accomplish certain tasks, like scrolling through webpages, or even navigating the phone’s home menu. This eye-tracking functionality will require the user to be looking directly at the screen itself, as the phone employs a split screen design. Those who are looking at the phone at an oblique angle will only see a static background image.

Of course, eye-tracking works better if the phone is stable. This is where the self-adhesive properties come in. The back of the phone will incorporate self-adhesive polymers, allowing it to stick against walls, railings or any other stable surface.

With a winner chosen, the phone will now be given a name via crowdsourcing. ZTE aims to bring this phone to the market in 2017.
