Kodak is definitely a familiar name when it comes to photography. The company has recently revived itself out of bankruptcy and is now ready to take on the world again. This time, Kodak is testing out the smartphone market, and with that it has launched an Android smartphone named Ektra.

Of course, a Kodak smartphone wouldn’t be a Kodak smartphone without its focus on the camera optics department. The Ektra’s rear camera is a 21MP PDAF sensor with OIS and an aperture of f/2.0. The camera app features a DSLR like design, with presets such as Auto, HDR, Panorama, Sports and Macro, just to name a few. These presets are on a DSLR-esque dial on the screen of the camera app and happens to have haptic feedback when you turn the virtual dial. Manual mode gives users more liberty to tweak the camera settings such as ISO and shutter speed. Coupled with the rear camera is a 13MP selfie camera on the front, completing the banging camera package. The Ektra also has a dedicated camera shutter button for taking pictures.

The rest of the Ektra’s specs include a 5-inch Full HD screen with Gorilla Glass protection, a MediaTek Helio X20 processor underneath the hood with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage via the micro SD card slot. The Ektra sports a 3,000mAh battery, a USB Type-C port and will run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

The Ektra’s design is very much like that of a camera. To finish up the camera look, Kodak has a range of real leather cases for the Ektra, making them look like vintage camera bags. The Ektra will be available in Europe this December for $550 (RM2,299.36). What are your thoughts on Kodak’s attempt on a smartphone?
