The Mi 5X is a rather impressive smartphone with the Mi 6 adapted dual camera system, while it is most certain that the phone will be making its way out of China, it seems that Xiaomi has intended to sell the Mi 5X in India as an Android One smartphone, which is a pretty surprising move as the Mi 5X isn’t an entry-level spec smartphone in many ways, the Android One program is intended for affordable smartphones that runs on Google’s latest Android OS and security patches, while ensuring a low price tag and meeting certain hardware requirements.

As reported by XDA-Developers via Krispitech, the Android One Mi 5X will be allegedly called the Xiaomi A1 or Xiaomi Tissot, it is still assumed to be powered by a Snapdragon 625 SoC, which is more than decent than any entry-level chips, MIUI will be scrapped and replaced with a clean stock version of Android, these information are extracted from the screenshot above, which is assumed to be some sort of regulator’s list that is retrieved by Krispitech, while its good to know that the Mi 5X will retain the dual camera setup and 5.5-inch Full HD display, we can’t say the same for the phone’s RAM and storage, given the fact that it needed to keep costs low as an Android One device.

Xiaomi is definitely a big name in India, but it also faces strong competition from local companies such as Micromax, Spice, and Karbonn, all of which have Android One devices in their portfolio, and in order to compete in the entry-level space, releasing an Android One device could give the company advantage in selling more phones in the Indian market. Should this become true, then we might see Xiaomi do the same to other markets like Indonesia, where the Android One program is also present.
