Malaysia’s first Snapdragon 888 smartphone has finally arrived in the form of the Xiaomi Mi 11. You’ve heard a lot of this highly-anticipated flagship already when it was launched globally, so now we’re glad to report that the phone is now in Malaysia and costs RM2,799.
Display and design
The phone comes with a massive 6.81-inch WQHD+ 120Hz AMOLED panel that supports 10-bit colour output, as well as HDR 10+. Protecting this fantastic panel is Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, which is the toughest protective glass in the market right now.
On the back of the phone is a dual-glare frosted glass finish, and it comes in two colour options – Midnight Grey, and Horizon Blue.
On the top and bottom of the chassis is the phone’s dual stereo speakers engineered by Harman Kardon, giving more immersive audio when watching movies and listening to music.
Under the hood is the aforementioned Snapdragon 888 chipset which packs packed with one big Cortex-X1 (2.84GHz) core, and three Cortex A78 (2.4GHz), and four small A55 cores (1.8GHz).
For memory and storage, the Malaysian variants pack 8GB RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage.
For imaging, the phone packs a 108MP main lens, along with a 13MP ultrawide shooter, and a 5MP telemacro lens; but it isn’t so much the megapixel count that impresses, it’s the new software features that take the cake.
For photos, there’s AI Erase 2.0, which lets works better at removing background subjects; and Night Mode 2.0 which now performs better in low-light shots.
For videography, there’s cinematic video filters that allow users to set professional colour grading to their videos; one click AI cinema which offers a bunch of fun AI effects; and Ultra Night Video which improves low-light videography.
Powering the Mi 11 is a 4,600mAh battery, and the phone also supports up to 55W of wired fast charging, 50W of wireless charging, and 10W of reverse charging.
The phone sports an in-screen fingerprint reader that doubles as a heart-rate sensor – however, this feature will only come at a later dat via an OTA update. You also get WiFi 6 connectivity as well for faster internet.
Pricing and availability
The phone is priced at RM2,799 for the 8GB+128GB model, while the 8GB+256GB version will cost RM2,999. Pre-orders for Mi 11 starts now until March 10 and you’ll get an Mi Air Purifier 3C for free.
