The term “phablet” was coined roughly back when the Galaxy Note was first launched by Samsung. However, with standard flagship handsets sporting displays of more than 5 inches and other smartphones typically featuring a standard 5.5-inch display, what used to be “phablet” isn’t exactly phablet anymore. But of course, there are exceptional cases of devices above the 6-inch roof since 2013, such as the Galaxy Mega, Huawei’s Ascend Mate and the Xperia Z Ultra being the notable ones. All three have successors respectively, which tells us that there is a market for smartphones of that form factor.

Whether or not bigger phablets will be relevant in the near future remains to be seen, but images of the front panel of an alleged Xiaomi Max have been leaked on Chinese site Baidu, showing a massive 6.4-inch display encompassed by super thin bezels. The display is said to be of QHD resolution, which is surprising for a screen of that form factor. The Xiaomi Max is also said to be powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor, while other specs have yet to be spilled. If the alleged handset is packing a fingerprint sensor, it will most likely be on the back since the front panel only consists of capacitive buttons, which also confirms that the panel is of Xiaomi based on the look of the buttons.

Unfortunately, that’s all we know for now but there will definitely be more leaks coming soon since the Xiaomi Max is rumored to be unveiled next month. What do you think of the handset’s 6.4-inch display? Let us know your thoughts!
