Twitter may put Vine up for sale after all

When Twitter first announced that they would shut down Vine last month, many were wondering why couldn’t Twitter just sell of the company instead. Today, sources have told TechCrunch that Vine may not be going gently into that quiet goodnight after all, as it appears that Twitter has received a huge number of bids from various tech comapnies for the short-video app.

According to the report, these bids comes from companies around the world, including Asia. While nothing was confirmed just yet, it is rumoured that Japanese messaging company LINE is one of the companies interested in acquiring Vine. While selling Vine may ease the strain placed on Twitter’s accounts, the bids that are rolling in for Vine are reportedly at the USD10 million range. For reference, Twitter bought the short video service for an estimated USD30 million. However the deal goes, Twitter would still be losing money over its acquisition of the service.

Despite that, should Twitter manage to sell of Vine, it would allow the short video service to (hopefully) live on instead of being relegated to just a video archive. As of the time of writing, TechCrunch has reported that Twitter has shortlisted five companies that are interested in buying Vine. Here’s hoping that Vine is able to sell itself off to another company instead of languishing under Twitter.
