Spotify has hit an impressive milestone in the world of music streaming, retaining its solid first placing among music streaming services. The company just announced that it has hit the 50 million mark in terms of its paid subscriber base.

This milestone has proven Spotify’s performance over the last year, with the number of its paid subscribers increasing by a whopping two-thirds, from 30 million this time last year. In September last year, the company recorded a total of 40 million subscribers. Bear in mind that these numbers do not include Spotify’s free users, in which if taken into account surpasses the 100 million mark.

Spotify’s head start over its competitors definitely shows in the exponential growth of its subscriber base. For comparison, Apple Music reached 20 million subscribers last December and the last known reported figure for premium music streaming service Tidal was 1.1 million subscribers. Spotify’s latest milestone is more than double of the two other services combined.

We will be expecting Spotify to maintain its position on top at least for the next 2 years, given the lead it has right now. Which of these music streaming services do you use?
