Mobile chip manufacturers are harnessing the power of AI, Huawei has done it with their Kirin chips, Qualcomm with their Snapdragon and even Apple with their A12 Bionic chip. Samsung wants to be more prominent in the AI chip market and will apparently be releasing a new SoC which will be implemented into the Galaxy S10 when it releases.

The company has completed the development of the second-generation Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for daily usage and Visual Processing Unit (VPU) for the camera, it is expected to come as the Exynos 9820 and it will be used in next year’s phones and tablets. This is not Samsung’s first attempt to use AI, the company has been using it in their Exynos 9180, equipped on phones like the Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+ and The Galaxy Note 9. It is unsure if the new chip will live up to the Kirin 980, which come with dual-NPUs and is considered the most advance AI-based processor in the market.

Whether Samsung plans to stick to the Exynos processor for the international market is still unknown, however there might be a chance they will do so as it would financially benefit the company if they use their own processor in their own phones.
