Samsung to discontinue the Milk Music service next month

If you’ve ever own a Samsung device, chances are good that you’ve seen the company’s own take on the music streaming service called Milk Music. Well, it appears that Milk Music has not done as well as Samsung would like it to be, and as such, they have decided to shut down the service on the 22nd of September.

First launched in 2014, Milk Music was Samsung’s take on a Pandora-like free personalized radio service in 2014. Over time, Samsung has expanded upon Milk by introducing a video aggregation app dubbed Milk Video with plans for a Milk app that is specifically tailored to sports.

Unfortunately for Samsung, the Milk project did not pan out as well as Samsung expected it to be. Milk Video was shut down last September, and Samsung’s U.S. based services group went through a series of layoffs.

With Milk closing down next month, it remains to be seen if Samsung would replace Milk with a more mainstream service such as Spotify or even Pandora. Samsung has not mentioned about a Milk replacement in its statement about the closure of Milk, so only time will tell if Samsung will replace Milk with another app.
