Remember Tizen? Samsung’s own operating system? Well, said OS has been trailing behind its main competitor, Android, in the apps department due to its relative niche-ness. In an attempt to rope more developers to develop apps for its platform, Samsung has launched an incentive program that will see developers earn cash prizes for being the top apps of the month.

Called the Tizen Mobile App Incentive Program, Samsung will be offering developers a USD10,000 prize for those who manage to develop an app that enters the top 100 most-downloaded apps from the Tizen Store. This incentive program will run from February until September of 2017, with Samsung potentially giving away USD1 million per month throughout the entire program’s duration.

The incentive program will require developers to build apps for Samsung’s Tizen-powered phones like the Z1, the Z2 and the Z3. Developers should also aim to have their apps be compatible with future Tizen-powered devices that may release in 2017. Samsung has also placed restrictions on pre-installed apps and apps whose development was funded by Samsung themselves, disqualifying them from this incentive program. If you’ve been waiting for a good time to jump into the Tizen development scene, now is the moment to do so.
