In a bid to claim the title of being the first manufacturer to release a 5G-enabled smartphone, Samsung today announced that its Galaxy S10 5G will be going on sale in its home market of South Korea on April 5.

Samsung had originally planned to release the Galaxy S10 5G in South Korea by the end of March. Unfortunately, however, the release date had to be postponed as the smartphone passed South Korea’s National Radio Research Agency signal verification test just a few days back.

The Galaxy S10 5G release date is a week earlier than Verizon’s planned 5G launch in Chicago and Minneapolis. The US carrier will use Motorola’s Moto Z3 4G smartphone with a 5G Moto Mod to launch its 5G service.

Surprisingly, Samsung hasn’t announced a pre-order program for the Galaxy S10 5G. The smartphone’s price hasn’t been confirmed either. If industry sources are to be believed, the 5G-enabled smartphone could cost somewhere around 1.5 million won (RM5,407) in South Korea.

Consumers who register their Galaxy S10 5G from April 5-16 will be eligible to receive a package with free Galaxy Buds and a wireless charger. Additionally, they will also get a 50% discount on screen replacement for up to 1 year from the date of purchase. The Galaxy S10 5G is expected to be launched in a few markets outside South Korea later this year.
