Samsung began rolling out a new software update for its Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones earlier this month, adding a dedicated Night Mode to the two models. It has now started seeding a similar software update for the Galaxy Note 9.

The latest software update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 arrives as version N960FXXU3CSF9 and is currently available via the OTA route in Germany. In the coming days, however, we expect the same update to spread to other regions around the world. Since it brings a few new features, the update weighs in at 704MB in terms of size.

In addition to the dedicated Night Mode, the update includes the latest June Android security patch. Camera performance is said to have been improved as well. Seeing how the Night Mode works quite well on the Galaxy S9 and S9+, you can expect the Galaxy Note 9’s low-light performance to improve slightly with the feature enabled. Another new camera feature that this update adds is a built-in QR code scanner, which will let you scan QR codes without the help of Bixby Vision.

It is definitely commendable that Samsung is bringing at least some of the key features of its latest Galaxy S10 series phones to its 2018 flagship smartphones. However, the company definitely needs to work on reducing the time it takes to roll out major OS upgrades to its flagship smartphones.
