Samsung announced its first 64-megapixel camera sensor for smartphones earlier this month. A new report out of South Korea now claims the company is readying a variant of the Galaxy A70 equipped with the new camera sensor.

The ETNews report says the Samsung Galaxy A70S with the company’s ISOCELL Bright GW1 64MP image sensor will be released during the second half of the year. Unfortunately, the report does not mention anything regarding the hardware specifications of the smartphone. Going by the name, we can expect it to have at least a few things in common with the Galaxy A70.

In addition to confirming that the Samsung Galaxy A70S would be the first smartphone to come equipped with the new 64-megapixel ISOCELL image sensor, the report confirms the Galaxy Note 10 will not utilize the same sensor. This is not surprising as Samsung has been introducing some new technologies to its mid-range lineup before its flagship line. It released the world’s first quad-camera smartphone last year, the Galaxy A9 (2018).

Launched in March, the Galaxy A70 sports a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED panel with Full HD+ resolution and a very tall 20:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by an 11nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset clocked at 2.0 GHz with an Adreno 612 GPU and up to 8GB RAM. It comes with a 32MP + 8MP + 5MP triple camera setup on the back and a 32MP selfie camera on the front. It also packs a large 4500mAh battery with 25W Super Fast charging support.
