Samsung is ending the year with a flurry of smartphone launches – two devices in the Galaxy A51 and A71 arrive just last week. Adding to the list of A-series products before the end of the decade is the Samsung Galaxy A01.

As its name may suggest, the phone sits at the bottom of the pecking order, being a budget-friendly smartphone packed with quite literally the bare minimum for a 2019 smartphone. It’s equipped with a 5.7-inch Infinity-V display that pushes a 720p resolution.

At the back, we see a subdued design with no real characteristics to set it apart. Here, you’ll find a double-camera setup (13MP main + 2MP depth sensor), while for selfies, you get a 5MP shooter.

Under the hood is an octa core chipset with up to 8GB RAM and 128GB Internal storage, which is expandable up to 512GB via microSD card. Powering the device is a measly 3,000mAh battery. The phone does support dual Nano SIM that’s separate from the microSD card slot.

With that said, the Galaxy A01 is geared towards being a traveler’s second smartphone – it’s lightweight with ample storage, memory and support for two SIM cards. There’s no official word yet one where it’ll be launched and how much it’ll cost – but this would be a decent pick-up for those looking for a back-up device for whatever purpose.
