The Snapdragon 855 chipset is arguably the most powerful smartphone chipset in the market now – it’s used in flagships like the Xiaomi Mi 9, Samsung Galaxy S10 (in certain regions), OPPO Reno 10x Zoom and more.

It’s been serving these heavy-duty devices well so far, but now Qualcomm have come out to announce the mid-year upgrade of the chipset – the Snapdragon 855 Plus. The new-and-improved chipset is more capable when it comes to gaming – Qualcomm claims that the Kyro 485 CPU Prime now offers a peak clock speed of 2.96GHz, compared to the regular SD 855’s peak of 2.84GHz; while the Adreno 640 GPU now boasts a 15% increase on performance.

Qualcomm also says that the SD 855 Plus improves on AI, 5G connectivity and VR support too. It still uses two modems – the Snapdragon X24 LTE 4G and the Qualcomm X50 5G modem – for cellular performance.

The Snapdragon 855 Plus is said to arrive later this year, and could be seen in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 10 – although we doubt the Malaysian version will still sport Samsung’s own Exynos chipsets.
