Just a couple of days after the hardworkers at OnePlus rolled out Oxygen OS 3.1 for the mid range OnePlus X, they have wasted no time in pushing out a new software update for their latest flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 3. OnePlus has announced the rollout for Oxygen OS version 3.5 for the handset, in beta, or in their own words, a Community Build.
The two month old budget flagship has been receiving quite the number of updates since it was launched, plus a recent hotfix a week or two ago. According to the OnePlus forums, Oxygen OS 3.5 will usher in a bunch of UI improvements, new and improved apps by OnePlus, which includes the file manager, clock and weather, improved camera software plus some improved customization options. The folks at OnePlus claim that Oxygen OS 3.5 brings a lot of “back end enhancements” which are said to improve processes. Also, the update will help bring in future updates at a higher frequency and at faster speeds as well.
If you’re keen on trying out this update for your OnePlus 3, do note the file has to be flashed via ADB sideload. Total data loss is possible hence OnePlus has stressed the need to backup your important data before testing the waters. Since its a Community Build, the forum has listed out several bugs that you need to be aware of. First off, Android Pay won’t be supported, and English will be the only supported language in Oneplus’ own apps. System UI Tuner happens to be off limits as it is unstable, plus you’ll be facing some issues with the UI if you have a custom theme applied. Users might also need to re-register fingerprints if you have the fingerprint authentication feature enabled, and lastly, the usual performance issues faced during day-to-day usage.
