OnePlus finally releases OxygenOS after some delays

The OnePlus One sells like hotcakes due to a couple of reasons – affordable, powerful hardware and it comes preloaded with the popular custom ROM CyanogenMod. If you have been following mobile news back then, you’ll know that after the people behind CyanogenMod sealed an exclusive deal with Indian phone maker Micromax on including its software into their phones, which makes OnePlus owners in India not able to receive future updates on their CyanogenMod powered smartphones, even though that issue has been long resolved.

OnePlus realized this deal isn’t going to work in the long term, given that recently CyanogenMod has been heavily invested by Microsoft for some reasons, the company has finally decided to move on by creating its very own Android based software with the help of some developers, including one from famous Android smartphone-tablet hybrid ROM ParanoidAndroid to develop their all new OS – Oxygen ROM and its now official.

Since OxygenOS is still pretty much developed on the base of AOSP, you won’t find too many differences from CyanogenMod’s Lollipop build and there are much resemblance from the original software itself, notable features include drawing gestures during screen off to access the camera, rearranging toggles on the notifications shade and lastly OxygenOS is using Google Now launcher just like Nexus devices.

OnePlus owners who desire for a closer Nexus like experience can head over to http://www.oneplus.net/oxygenos and download the ROM to flash it on to your phone, the ROM is still now pretty much in a beta stage so do expect bugs and flashing it isn’t as easy as you think according to some folks out there, GLHF!
