Nvidia turned heads when they released their GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics card a few weeks ago, bringing their latest Turing architecture and GDDR6 memory to the masses at an affordable price.

Nvidia claims that the reasoning behind the name of the graphics card is to position it between the GeForce GTX 10 series and the GeForce RTX series, thus promising a balance between power and affordability.

Yesterday, Nvidia made their move in the GPU market again by introducing the smaller non-Ti GeForce GTX 1660 card. It comes with the same Turing architecture used by its bigger brethren but gets GDDR5 memory instead.

According to The Verge, despite being lower capacity than the GTX 1660 Ti, it still out-performs the GTX 1060. Which makes sense considering the latter uses an older Pascal architecture as well as a larger 16nm process.

Also, Nvidia claims that the GTX 1660 should be 15% faster than the GTX 1060 and a whopping 130% faster than the still-very-capable GTX 960. The GTX 1660 6GB is priced from $219 (about RM896), which is only slightly pricier than the older GTX 1060 6GB. Like Ti variant of the card, you can expect this to only be provided via Nvidia’s partnered vendors, so don’t expect a Founders Edition of the GTX 1660.
