AMD’s 990FX chipset has been around the market for some time and MSI has decided to make AMD enthusiasts a motherboard with the chipset on its AMD 990FXA GAMING motherboard. Despite being an old AMD chipset, MSI has managed to include two USB 3.1 Type-A ports on the rear, and it is the first AMD chipset motherboard to support NVMe.

The MSI AMD 990FXA GAMING motherboard will come with the usual collection of enthusiast-level features from MSI’s GAMING series such as Crossfire and SLI support, lots of I/O and expansion options, Audio Boost 2 and Killer LAN. However, one of the missing pieces on the new 990FXA GAMING motherboard is a M.2 slot of any kind, which is a shame since this is a pretty standard feature in gaming motherboards.

In conjunction to AMD’s recently leaked R9 380 which offers great performance at the best value, enthusiasts have been looking forward to what AMD could release with its flagship to take on NVIDIA, the 990FXA GAMING motherboard has certainly left us wanting more from the value+peformance minded chip maker, this isn’t a deal breaker to be honest, but MSI’s effort on making this chipset in its portfolio is certainly commendable.
