Microsoft wants to do more in its attempt to cut down on hate speech. As such, the company is introducing a new method by which users are able to report any form of hate speech that they’ve encountered on Microsoft’s consumer services.
Starting from today, Microsoft will allow you to report incidents of hate speech by filling in this web form. As the page states, the form can be used by people who have stumbled onto content that advocates violence or promotes hatred based on age, disability, gender, national or ethnic origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity. This form covers most, if not all of Microsoft’s consumer services, ranging from Outlook, Skype, Xbox Live, OneDrive and other services.
In what may seem to be awareness on Microsoft’s part, the company has also included a seperate web form that would allow a user to request the company to reconsider and reinstate the content that was removed, thereby preventing people from abusing the hate speech report function to silence people who have different viewpoints.
“We will continue our ‘notice-and-takedown’ approach for removing prohibited content on hosted consumer services, and the new form aims to improve the quality and speed of our reviews,” says Jacqueline Beauchere, Microsoft Chief Online Safety Officer.
