Microsoft have finally came to their senses, closing the chapter on the Xbox 360 console. The Xbox 360 achieved a milestone late last year in November, celebrating its 10th birthday. The fact that a gaming console has been in production for 10 years, coupled with the rapid advancement of technology, the company has realized that it’s finally time to stop the production of the Xbox 360.

Microsoft boasts a total of over 78 billion gaming hours played, a Gamerscore of 486 billion on 27 billion achievements and more than 25 billion hours in terms of app consumption via the Xbox 360. Existing units of the Xbox 360 will of course still be sold worldwide, but those will be the last batch of the decade-old gaming console. During its prime, the console has seen great development on the Halo franchise, alongside the birth of the famous Gears of War.

As reality strikes, Xbox 360 players will still be receiving Xbox Live services, and servers will remain active. Xbox 360 titles will also continue to be sold on the online store while they last. On top of that, the hardware will still be supported on the Xbox website. The newer Xbox One owners will still be able to play Xbox 360-exclusive titles via the Xbox One Backward Compatibility.

Are you an owner of the Xbox 360? The team at Xbox thanks you for being a part of their community, and contributing to who they are today.
