Instagram now allows users to follow hashtags

Instagram has come a long way since its earlier days a few years ago. Still known for being a Snapchat copycat for its Instagram Stories feature, the app has definitely crushed Snapchat in the competition. While most of us would prefer having more followers on Instagram, the company has decided that we can now follow not only people, but hashtags as well.

Instagram wants to make life easier for the explorer in you with this new feature. In order to follow a certain hashtag, #slime for example as shown above, all you have to do is to type out “slime” in the search bar, tap on it and there will be an option to follow the hashtag. In doing so, the top posts under that hashtag will be featured in your Instagram feed. Stories with the hashtag will also appear on the Stories bar alongside Stories from people you follow.

The privacy settings still remain the same, meaning that if your Instagram account is private, only your followers will be able to view which hashtags you follow, and vice versa. What do you think of this new feature? Sounds like a handy way to further explore to the depths of Instagram.
