The thing about virtual reality is that not only you need to have a very powerful PC to make things work well, but you also need content to make your investment worth it, which is why HTC has launched the Viveport Subscription, a monthly service that costs $6.99 and offers five VR apps for you to choose from, there are 50 VR apps at this point of time and you can rotate the apps every month, which makes it a rather interesting yet affordable solution.
This concept is rather similar to what NVIDIA is doing with its GeForce Now subscription, however Viveport doesn’t render the app so you’ll still need your gaming PC to power the apps, HTC is offering a one-month free trial for those who wants to try out the service, and you can already have access to apps like Fantastic Contraption, Everest VR, Richie’s Plank Experience and TheBlue. If you haven’t bought a Vive just yet, the company has also reduced the Vive’s price in its country of availability.
HTC’s decision to launch Viveport is in conjunction with the Vive’s first anniversary, and for that the company is also giving away Arcade Saga, a three-game package that would cost you $19.99 on Steam, that’s actually a pretty sweet move and will certainly attract some to invest the HTC Vive headset.
