HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang takes over CEO position from Peter Chou

I’ve anticipated this to happen one day, HTC is seriously in need of a leader to boost its sales and market presence, the heroine behind the company, Cher Wang, has decided to take over responsibilities from Peter Chou as CEO of the Taiwanese mobile company, Chou isn’t gone but he will be taking a new role at leading the company’s own Future Development Lab, which makes a lot of sense since he is very much an engineer rather than a marketer if you noticed his keynote – his presentation skill is terrible in my opinion.

Last year, Chou used to swear that if the One M8 fails to sell he will step down as CEO of the company, he was in fact really lucky that didn’t happen as the phone turned out to be a success, the One M8 also happens to bring the company back to profit due to its great smartphone design that appeals better than Samsung’s plastic GALAXY S5. I personally have respect for Peter as an engineer and it really is a good thing he decided to put his focus more on product innovation, which the company has slacked throughout the years. On the other hand, Cher’s entrepreneurship could actually bring the company’s fortune to the next level since she’ll be focusing on the company’s direction.

Now that we know this has happened, we could be seeing Peter Chou churning out a few stuffs from its lab in the next couple of months or maybe an even better flagship smartphone, please don’t call it the One M10, it just feels really weird.
