Google has officially launched the Pixel 8a, its latest entry-level Pixel device packs significant upgrades over its predecessor and has all the AI features that can be found on its flagship Pixel 8 and 8 Pro smartphone.

Design wise, the Pixel 8a takes on the design language of its flagship siblings with the same camera bar, more rounded corners but with slightly thicker screen bezels. Like its predecessor, the Google Pixel 8a sports a 6.1-inch FHD+ OLED display but now features a 120Hz refresh rate and 2000 nits peak brightness, though it is still protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

The Pixel 8a uses the same Google self-developer Tensor G3 processor paired to 8GB RAM and up to 256GB of storage, this new processor enables more AI capabilities on its photography experience, such as Best Take that lets you replace faces in a group shot with the ones that you prefer, Magic Editor that allows reposition and resizing of subjects, and Audio Magic Eraser that removes distracting sounds like wind, crowds and noises in videos.

Camera hardware is carried from the Pixel 7a, which is a dual-camera setup that consist of a 64MP optically stabilized main camera and a 13MP ultrawide camera, with both capable of taking 4K 60 fps videos, the front camera is 13MP shooter that takes 4K 30 fps videos.

Battery capacity on the Pixel 8a has been slightly bumped to 4492mAh that supports fast USB PD 3.0 wired charging and 7.5W wireless charging.

Probably the biggest upgrade to the Pixel 8a is the same level of software support as its flagship siblings, as Google is promising up to 7 years of Android OS and security upgrades, it becomes the first mid-range device to commit to such software update schedule.

While there’s no hope of the Pixel 8a to be officially sold in Malaysia, it should arrive soon at neighboring countries such as Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Japan, the phone can be purchased starting May 14 in the US for $499 (RM2,360).
