Google is discontinuing Android Nearby Notifications, a feature launched 3 years back that will be gone from 6 December this year.
The Android Nearby Notifications is made for users to discover their surroundings by showing notifications of apps and websites that users can interact with such as providing information on nearby stores and products, letting you know if there’s free WiFi in coffee shops or launching conversations in messaging apps.
This feature caused Android users to be spammed with many unwanted and irrelevant notifications, and even though Google tried filtering and tuning the links and apps provided, there were still many spam content that were provided to users. Hence, Google decided to stop the program, so that Android users will no longer be spammed by unnecessary content.
Though the Nearby Notifications will no longer be available, Google still has the Nearby Messages and Connections features, which allow multiplayer gaming, realtime collaboration and also gaming and file sharing among users.
