In a move that is as absurd as it reads, a game developer has attempted to sue Steam users over negative reviews of it’s games.
The game developer in question is Digital Homicide, a company known for developing games of dubious quality such as The Slaughtering Grounds. Over the weekend, Digital Homicide’s boss, James Romine, was granted a subpoena by a court in Arizona. With this subpoena, Romine is now allowed to demand the release of “identification and associated data” of anonymous Steam users. This wouldn’t be the first time Digital Homicide has courted controversy, as the company was entangled in a public feud with video game personality Jim Sterling prior to this incident.
Valve has not responded kindly to Digital Homicide’s little stunt of course, and they have since removed all of the developer’s games from being sold on Steam. Digital Homicide’s reaction to this is rather predictable, saying that they will seek legal action against Valve. We have no idea if Digital Homicide has the funds necessary to hire any lawyers to represent them in this case, but should they have the money to do so, the legal battle between Digital Homicide and Valve will be an entertaining one to witness.
