The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is set to make its long awaited appearance a week from now at a New York City launch event. Given the poor demise of the company’s previous Galaxy Note 7 which was ill fated to face a fire hazard crisis, the bar has been set pretty high for the Note 8, and the excellency of the Galaxy S8 series has pushed that a step ahead.

Rumors and leaks surrounding the Galaxy Note 8 have been pouring in as early as several months back, and they have been getting more consistent as they come. So far, one of the notable highlights of the upcoming Samsung phablet is that it will feature a dual camera setup. Now we have news of its more specific details in the optics department.

News outlet ET News has reported that the dual rear camera setup of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will consist of 12MP and 13MP sensors respectively. The 12MP shooter is a dual lens pixel sensor and the 13MP will be the telephoto lens. ET News further points out that the dual camera configuration will be capable of producing 2x optical zoom for the Galaxy Note 8.

The report also states that the Galaxy Note 8 will be the pioneer of Samsung’s implementation of dual cameras on its devices, meaning that future flagships from the South Korean manufacturer will most likely sport dual cam setups as well. What do you think of Samsung’s venture into the dual camera game?
